Holidays and Happiness

2021 is quickly coming to a close. The holidays are fast approaching; this is the time of year when there are so many things to celebrate; however, it is also the time of year that many people become very sad. It is important to talk to someone about your feelings. If you do not have a close friend or trusted family member, it is important to find a professional. Talk to your general practitioner and ask for a recommendation. With everything going on in the world today, it can be easy to seclude yourself and avoid gatherings. Though I am not recommending spending time in large gatherings, secluding yourself will not help either.

Balance. It always comes down to balance. We cannot appreciate the light if we have never experienced the darkness. Do not live in the darkness. Spend time with people who bring you joy and limit your time with people who do not.

Depending on where you are located, you may be getting much less daylight. The lack of sunlight can exacerbate depression and feelings of sadness. Try to get outside, especially on days when the sun is out.

Exercise releases hormones that can help elevate your mood. When the weather gets cooler, the desire to go out for walks can diminish, and we all do not have home gyms. Going to a local mall, even a dying one, can be a good place to walk laps if you can find a buddy to go with you, double bonus.

Feel free to send me an email at MommaHattie.LLSO@gmail.com. I am happy to listen and am willing to share my thoughts. And if the sadness or anxiety is overwhelming you, please, call National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. Remember, as hard as it may be, you are important, loved, and there is so much beauty in the world to discover.

Love Lots; Smile Often
